Reinforced Concrete Heritage Tour in Rome

Saturday, 3rd September 2022

In order to register to the Architectural Tour, the Registration and Payment to the Symposium must be completed

Tour description: Flaminio and EUR

Among the monuments of the city of Rome, there are a series of impressive reinforced concrete works that are considered an integral part of the architectural and engineering heritage of the twentieth century.
In this section of our website, we suggest two Reinforced Concrete architectural tours dedicated to some important reinforced concrete structures, easily accessible from the Tor Vergata campus, by the metro line.
The first suggested tour is dedicated to the well known all over the world works of Pier Luigi Nervi designed and constructed for the 1960 Rome Olympic games in the Flaminio district, the Palazzetto dello Sport, the Corso Francia viaduct, and the Flaminio Stadium. As part of this tour, you can also visit the famous Risorgimento bridge, designed and constructed by Hennebique and Porcheddu for the International Esposition of 1911 and the MAXXI Museum reinforced concrete building, by Zaha Hadid Architects, completed in 2011.
The second suggested tour is dedicated to another olympic work by Nervi, the Palazzo dello Sport, together with the EUR district, whose buildings, originally built for the E42 exhibition, are an example of rationalist architecture. The tour includes the view of the two reinforced concrete bridges crossing the EUR artificial lake.

Limited number of participants (max 40 participants) Reservation required using the Register Button. The reservation is restricted to participants already registered to the Symposium. The Tour is free.
